CONGRATULATIONS TO BATCH '77 FOR A SUCCESSFUL ALUMNI CHRISTMAS PARTY LAST DECEMBER 1, 2002

Batch '77 indeed held a successful Alumni Christmas party.  They were also very grateful for the continuous support of Batch '74 via our donations and our presence during the memorable evening.  This was the first time in the history of QCHS (I think) that a Christmas Party was intended for a noble cause... the gift-giving to deserving children of the nearby barangays.  To Batch '77, you truly deserve our deepest gratitude.  Congratulations!

Following is the "UNMODIFIED" e-mail of Jojie Averilla-San Pablo of QCHS class '77. I have no photo images for the said affair.  Please accept my apologies.

dear batchmates,

finally! we got through batch '77's last activity for the year.  the general alumni christmas party at the school was held yesterday dec. 1 at the QCHS covered court.

the kids from the barangays came in full force and more.  they came with mothers and smaller kids in tow. medyo nataranta kami because we were expecting only 50.  ofel cornelio-aringo, carol ponce de leon and the registration girls got confused on the names of the kids kasi may last minute replacements ng mga bata. the registration table was very nice because pedro castelo displayed some of his bonsai/rock arrangement na may miniature waterfalls (yun ba tawag don?).  mon salas was not able to make it due to a family emergency but the kids'parlor games was a riot, thanks to noemi chanco-dy, jowen acantilado-doctor, nelia corpus, arnel francia, alfred viado who pitched-in for mon.  masaya talaga.  mukhang yung mga nagpalaro ang nag-enjoy ng husto!  pati sa food distribution, ang gulo din.  buti na lang, the ladies were assisted by gil conse, sammy queral, jun prado, peng viado, arnel, etc.  there was so much food for the kids (nung nagdidistribute na ng food, naalala ng grupo na on-the-way palang ang sandwiches ni mike medina and the hotdogs on stick ni jocelyn perea.  kaya twice pa pinapila ang mga bata)

after the mass, the packages of give-aways were distributed.  the response for the soliciations for used toys, books, food items from batch '77 and other alumni batches was overwhelming (daming noodles, kahon-kahon!).  even QC local officials sent packages of canned goods and noodles, thanks to the assistance of evelyn matias-fernando. the night before the event, we were re-packing the food items and the sacks of rice until late at night at jocelyn perea's house nakakatuwa kasi pati yung mga kabatch natin na mga big boss na sa office nila, nandon nagtatakal ng bigas at nagsisilid ng mga delata sa mga plastic bags).  at the same time, may isang grupo ng lalaki naman sa school na nag-peprepare ng venue , led by rt lina -- rollie ventura, sammy queral, gil conse, ped castelo, rodel castillo etc.  after the repacking, nagkita-kita sa school at kumain ng goto sa kanto ng kamuning road at ybardolaza.  grabe, pagod na pagod!

back to the affair itself.  the attendance from the alumni batches were not as big as last april 9th.  ang marami lang nag-attend came from batches 74, 78, 82,55, (only 1 from batch 76 attended, bakit kaya?). other batches pakonti-konti lang.  the program, emceed by rey and i(di nakarating si norman), became an impromptu thing, depende sa takbo ng panahon (!). batch 78 prepared a couple of song and dance numbers (thanks, allen!).  nagchacha number naman ang batch 55, na game na game pa rin.  rey peralta also did a couple of song numbers. at ballroom dancing hanggang gabi.  mrs. perlado, the principal, arrived at the party just in time for the dancing and commented, ano ito junior-senior prom? potluck food was a good idea.  unlike last april 9th na kinulang ng food, last night there was more than enough.  plus there were food booths selling barbecue, fish ball, hotdogs, isaw, mani, sweets, softdrinks and mineral water.  and there was the booth (courtesy of you-know-who) which served bottomless lipton iced tea until midnight.  beer, as always, was in every table.

forgot to mention jojie martinez-viray.  right in the center of the dancefloor.  kung wala siya, paano uumpisahan ang ballroom dancing? up to the last minute, donations for toys, food items were still coming in.  those which were not distributed to the kids will be donated to the feeding program of the school, which batch '77 is supporting. thanks to rey peralta for the cartons of food items from unilever donated for the feeding program.

the parolikhaan sa eskwelahan was also a hit among the students of QCHS.  we were expecting about 10 entries but on the day of the judging, the turnout was more. 26 entries!!!!  may native, may recycled coke bottles, medyo yung iba basa pa yung paint.  rodel castillo, buds convocar and egay zaragoza of batch 76 were the judges.  instead of just 3 winners, we chose 8, such that more will receive consolation prizes.

the lanterns became part of the stage backdrop and it can be said that the venue as a whole was good , thanks to the hard work of rt lina, rodel castillo, pedro castelo, rollie ventura, gil conse, sammy queral, etc., with the help of the high school COCC.

the affair ended at midnight.  batch 74, which joined batch 77's table earlier,  stayed on until clearing time.  usapang lasing na, pero usapang high school pa rin.

it was fun.  it was tiring.  the preparations days before the event was nerve-wracking, as always.  but it was a good feeling, sharing with the less fortunate kids, and at the same time, there was this nagging thought na sana we could have given more. but at the end of the day, when you think of what went wrong, you feel better when you remember you did your best and you did it together with friends.

thank you very much for all your support.

jojie
